UNC Global’s annual Passport Drive will be held on Nov. 17 and 18 in the FedEx Global Education Center 4003. U.S. Department of State officials will be present to accept new and renewal passport applications and to answer applicants’ questions.
During the 2014 Passport Drive, nearly 300 students, faculty, staff and their family members submitted passport applications.
“We are thrilled to be hosting our eleventh annual Passport Drive,” said Katie Bowler Young, director of Global Relations. “The event has been a tremendous success in the past, and we want to continue to make international travel more accessible to the Carolina community.”
Eligible students who have never had a passport had the opportunity to get one for free through the Passport to GO! (P2GO!) fellowship. The fellowship is offered by the Center for Global Initiatives (CGI), and applications for this year were due in late September. P2GO! is part of a larger campus effort spearheaded by CGI to expand access to international education. CGI anticipates offering the fellowship again next year.
This year the Passport Drive falls during International Education Week, an initiative sponsored by the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Department of Education. Celebrated in over 100 nations, International Education Week aims to promote the benefits of international education, foster international understanding and create support for international education exchange programs.
Passport forms will be available at the drive but can also be found online. UNC One Card staff will be at the event to take passport photos for $7, payable in cash or check, and photos can also be acquired at the UNC One Card Office or through another vendor prior to the event. To avoid long waits, applicants are encouraged to get their photos beforehand.
The Passport Drive is sponsored by UNC Global, the U.S. Department of State and the UNC One Card Office. More information is available on the UNC Global website.
