Dear Campus Community,

At last year’s University Day ceremony, we named 21 scholarships for Noteworthy Firsts — courageous people who helped break down barriers and pave the way for others at Carolina. We said that these newly named grants and fellowships were a starting point, and we pledged to find additional ways to share the history of Carolina and to accelerate our inclusion and diversity efforts.

Last week, during ceremonies commemorating Carolina’s 224th birthday, we announced our next step forward. For this new round of named scholarships, we welcome your nominations for Bridge Builders — people whose work, advocacy and personal example helped forge a more inclusive, unified and aspirational Carolina community. We also believe scholarships bearing the names of Bridge Builders will motivate our students to succeed in their own personal journeys at Carolina.

To nominate someone as a Bridge Builder, please follow this link. You can submit nominations through Tuesday, October 31. If you have questions about these scholarships, please contact Eric L. Johnson at ericjohnson@unc.edu.

Thank you for helping us recognize the remarkable people who created the Carolina we know today.

Sincerely,

Carol L. Folt
Chancellor
