If you get excited about creative applications for digital imaging, design, web and video, then mark September 19 on your calendar.
Beginning then, UNC-Chapel Hill will provide all students and 2,000 instructional faculty and staff with access to Adobe Creative Cloud, a collection of creative desktop and mobile tools, including PhotoShop, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro and InDesign.
Adobe Creative Cloud is a package of creative desktop applications for digital imaging, design, web and video, plus online services and storage.
“The University is helping lead the empowerment of students to advance from being a generation of digital consumers to being a generation skilled in the latest digital communication tools by supporting the adoption of Adobe Creative Cloud here at UNC-Chapel Hill,” said Chris Kielt, Vice Chancellor for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer. “This adoption is part of a larger commitment to digital literacy across our campus and was made possible thanks to collaborators from around the University invested in getting the best tools into the hands of our students.”
Campus partners in the digital literacy effort include the University’s College of Arts and Sciences, ITS, the School of Media and Journalism, and University Libraries.
The adobe.unc.edu website also provides instructions for obtaining and installing the software. The ITS Service Desk (at the Undergraduate Library, SASB South and at help.unc.edu) is also ready to assist students who need assistance downloading Adobe Creative Cloud.
Carolina’s licensing arrangement for students applies to all students, including graduate students who teach and assist with courses. Two thousand additional licenses are available to provide Adobe Creative Cloud to instructional faculty and staff at no additional charge to them or their departments.
ITS Teaching and Learning will review requests for licenses and will prioritize requests that include a description of how one or more applications will be used for course- and curricular-based projects. People who want the software for personal or administrative uses (e.g., marketing, communications) will be referred to instructions for purchasing an annual license at the discounted price of $20. Faculty, staff and students looking for more information about their Adobe license can visit adobe.unc.edu for details.
