Media invited to cover two ceremonies honoring the military on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11
(Chapel Hill, N.C.—Nov. 9, 2015) – The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will hold two separate, but linked ceremonies to honor veterans and active duty military on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11. Members of the media are invited to attend either or both events.
Ceremony at the Carolina Alumni Memorial: Hosted by the University’s Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC), the ceremony will begin at 11:11 a.m. and honors members of the armed services and veterans. The rain site is Gerrard Hall.
The guest speaker is Maj. Gen. Lawrence L. Wells, USA (ret.), whose last command was the 9th Air Force, headquartered at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C.
Tar Heel Tribute Ceremony: Immediately following the ceremony at the Carolina Alumni Memorial, the University hosts its second annual Tar Heel Tribute program at 12: 15 p.m. in Alumni Hall at The Carolina Club. The guest speaker is UNC-Chapel Hill Chancellor Carol L. Folt.
Tar Heel Tribute is an opportunity to thank veterans within the Campus community for their dedication and service. It is also a forum for attendees to learn more about the resources the University provides to assist military-affiliated employees and students.
