Cooder-White-Skaggs added to Carolina Performing Arts’ 2015-2016 season

World-renowned guitarist Ry Cooder, country music songbird Sharon White and country and bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs to perform at UNC-Chapel HIll’s Memorial Hall on November 20

(Chapel Hill, N.C.—July 21, 2015) – Carolina Performing Arts (CPA) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, in collaboration with UNC’s Southern Folklife Collection, announced today that it will co-present Cooder-White-Skaggs at Memorial Hall on Nov. 20, as an addition to its 2015-2016 season.

In an exceptional pairing, master multi-instrumentalists Cooder and Skaggs will come together on stage to deliver a revelatory program of blues, gospel and bluegrass music.  They will be joined by White, one of the purest voices in country music, along with Joachim Cooder on drums and Mark Fain on bass.

“Getting to work with Ry Cooder has been a dream of mine for a long time,” said Skaggs. “He is a world-class musician. We met at a Grammy Awards show many years ago and thought it would be a blast to do something together sometime, and now we’re getting to create new sounds around old music.”

Southern Folklife Collection curator Steven Weiss was instrumental in helping CPA bring the performance to Memorial Hall.

“The Southern Folklife Collection is honored to co-present this unique concert at Memorial Hall with Carolina Performing Arts,” said Weiss. “Ry Cooder, Ricky Skaggs and Sharon White are all national treasures; performing together they are truly an American Roots dream team.”

Tickets start at $29 and will go on sale on July 21 at 12 p.m. at www.cpatix.org or by calling CPA Ticket Services at 919-843-3333.
