Adrienne Keene to speak at UNC-Chapel Hill Native Leaders Symposium, March 27
(Chapel Hill, N.C.—March 19, 2015) – Adrienne Keene, who created an influential blog focused on dispelling stereotypes of American Indians and fostering discussion of representations of Native peoples, will be the keynote speaker at the UNC-Chapel Hill Native Leaders Symposium on March 27 at 1 p.m. at the George Watts Hill Alumni Center.
The theme for the event is “Representation and Empowerment in Indian Country.” Chancellor Carol L. Folt will introduce Keene, whose talk is titled “Learning to Lead From Behind a Keyboard: Native Representations and Why They Matter.” The public is invited to attend.

The Native Leaders Symposium, now in its third year, seeks to provide an opportunity to see firsthand how modern Indian Nations work, foster dialogue about current challenges and goals for Native communities, and give tribal leaders the opportunity to discuss issues and develop relationships with other Native leaders. Panelists, including UNC-Chapel Hill graduate students and graduate alumni, will discuss contemporary and historical struggles that Indigenous peoples face nationwide concerning representation and empowerment.
