The Friday Center’s Under the Atrium Concert Series presents Orquesta GarDel Jan. 10

The event will feature food trucks, a free salsa lesson and the concert

(Chapel Hill, N.C.—Dec. 18, 2014) – Join the William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education as they present a night of music, dancing, and food trucks. The Friday Center continues its must-see Under the Atrium concert series with the high-energy Latin music ensemble, Orquesta GarDel on Jan. 10, 2015.

Founded by UNC-Chapel Hill professor of ethnomusicology, David Garcia, and singer Nelson Delgado, the 13-member lineup replicates the format of a classic Nuyorican salsa dura ensemble featuring a full deck of horn players, percussionists, and coro singers. Rooted in its own arrangements of songs from the great salsa, cumbia, and merengue artists, flavors of edgy jazz and funky Cuban timba pour from the stage and onto the dance floor.

The night will begin with food trucks on-site at 7 p.m., followed by a group salsa lesson at 7:30 p.m. and the show at 8 p.m. Dancing is encouraged and wooden dance floors will be in place along with general seating. The lively performance will take place under the Friday Center’s beautiful glass-domed atrium.

Advance sale tickets are available for $12 online and at the Carolina Union Box Office. Tickets at the door are $14.
