Berrien Moore III, an internationally recognized Earth scientist, will deliver the Institute for the Environment’s Spring Environmental Seminar at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The talk, “Understanding the Human ‘Inflation’ of the Global Carbon Cycle,” will be held March 19 at 6 p.m. in UNC’s Tate-Turner-Kuralt Building auditorium.

Complimentary public parking for the event is available adjacent to the venue in the FedEx Global Education Center deck, accessed via Pharmacy Lane.  The event is free and open to the public.

Moore, a Carolina alumnus, received along with Al Gore and colleagues of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for efforts to improve knowledge about climate change and lay the foundations for measures needed to counteract it.

Moore holds the Chesapeake Energy Corporation Chair in Climate Studies at the University of Oklahoma.  He also serves as dean of the College of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences, director of the National Weather Center, and vice president for weather and climate programs.

Moore has published extensively on the global carbon cycle, biogeochemistry, remote sensing, environmental and space policy, and mathematics. His work has garnered many awards, including the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal and the 2007 Dryden Lectureship in Research Medal, awarded by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.
