Dr. Rosalind Fuse-Hall, president of Bennett College, will deliver the 21st annual Stone Memorial Lecture on Oct. 24 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The free public talk will be at 7 p.m. at the Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History.

Fuse-Hall, a UNC alumna who grew up in Fayetteville, has spent nearly 25 years in higher education. Before becoming a college president, she served as chief of staff at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University and held a similar role at North Carolina Central University. She also was an associate dean for the College of Arts and Sciences at UNC-Chapel Hill and the corporate secretary to the UNC Board of Governors.

The lecture honors the late Dr. Sonja Haynes Stone, a UNC professor and center advocate. This year’s event is part of the Stone Center’s 25th anniversary celebration and will include remarks from N.C. Central Chancellor Debra Saunders-White and UNC-Chapel Hill Chancellor Carol Folt. All three women began work as chancellors this year.

Each year, the lecture features African-American women whose work, scholarship and service epitomize the spirit of Dr. Stone. Previous speakers have included Angela Davis, Congresswoman Eva Clayton, Kathleen Cleaver, Pearl Cleage and Alfre Woodard. The event is co-sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and co-hosted by the Theta Pi Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
