Mary Junck, chair of the board of directors of The Associated Press, will headline a Women in Media Leadership series talk Oct. 29 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The UNC alumna and chair, president and chief executive officer of Lee Enterprises will begin her talk at 4 p.m. in Carroll Hall Auditorium at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. To reserve a seat for the free public talk, visit http://jomc.unc.edu/maryjunck

A 1971 master’s graduate of the school, Junck joined Lee Enterprises in 1999 as executive vice president and chief operating officer. She became president in 2000, CEO in 2001 and chair in 2002. Based in Iowa, Lee Enterprises provides local news, information and advertising in primarily midsize markets, with 50 daily newspapers, digital products and nearly 300 specialty publications in 23 states. Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway invested in Lee Enterprises, among several other news organizations.

Junck previously held senior executive positions at the former Times Mirror Company and was publisher and chief executive officer of The Baltimore Sun. She began her career with Knight Ridder with positions at The Charlotte Observer, The Miami Herald and The St. Paul Pioneer Press.
