“Syria: The Wider Implications” is the topic of a free panel discussion Oct. 1 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The event, sponsored by the political science department in UNC’s College of Arts and Sciences, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Murray Hall, Room G202.

The discussion will focus on how outside powers affect and are affected by the Syrian conflict. The panel of professors and doctoral students will address the history of U.S. involvement, the larger regional implications of the conflict, the track record of outside interventions and of outside mediation in civil wars, and how the U.S. military provides civilian leaders with advice about the use of military force.
