The Institute for the Environment at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will provide a unique learning opportunity for 20 middle and high school science and technology teachers from July 16-18. The event recognizes UNC’s Pan-Campus Water Theme for 2012-2014, an effort to mobilize University resources around a common issue facing society.
The Institute for the Environment at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will provide a unique learning opportunity for 20 middle and high school science and technology teachers from July 16-18. The event recognizes UNC’s Pan-Campus Water Theme for 2012-2014, an effort to mobilize University resources around a common issue facing society.
Participants will learn about energy issues in the 21st century, including water's role in energy development. They will tour UNC’s cogeneration facility, which produces steam and electricity for the campus, and the hydropower plant at John H. Kerr Dam.
The Progress Energy Foundation – which supports the institute’s Center for Sustainable Energy, Environment and Economic Development — provided funding for the workshop.
Workshop activities will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. July 16 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 17 and 18. For more information, media should contact the Institute for the Environment.
