It’s official: ACC adds Louisville

The Atlantic Coast Conference has formally announced the addition of the University of Louisville as its newest member, the conference’s Council of Presidents announced Wednesday morning. “The University of Louisville will be a terrific member of the Atlantic Coast Conference,” said University of North Carolina Chancellor Holden Thorp, chair of the ACC Council of Presidents, in a news release. “We welcome them as full partners into the ACC.”

Louisville 'honored' to join ACC

…The decision to add Louisville – likely in 2014 – received the unanimous support of the ACC’s Council of Presidents. And while Swofford spoke of the ACC’s commitment academics and athletics, UNC chancellor Holden Thorp said it was Louisville’s athletic success that was compelling given the fluid state of college sports and conference realignment.

Chapel Hill police are meeting with UNC students Thursday evening to get feedback as they continue to develop the department’s new comprehensive strategic plan. "A few months back, our strategic planning committee held some community meetings for input on our strategic plan," says Chapel Hill Police Sgt. Josh Mecimore, "and (Thursday) we're holding a meeting at the student union with the UNC student government, for any student that has an interest in hearing our progress…and providing any input they might have on the direction that we should head."

Group narrowing candidates for NCCU leader

A North Carolina Central University search committee Wednesday began winnowing down the candidates who want to become the next chancellor of the school. Sixty-five candidates have applied for the position and the search firm working with the committee has recommended 15 of the applicants for further investigation. But the committee could choose from among any of the 65 candidates as it determines which six or seven it wants to bring in for interviews.
