Sportswriter and broadcaster Freddie Kiger will take Tar Heel sports fans on the first True Blue Athletic Fan tour this Friday (Nov. 30) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Departing at 3 p.m. from the UNC Visitors’ Center inside the west entrance of the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center, Kiger will guide this exploration of UNC athletic traditions, landmarks and facilities.

The free tour is the last of this semester’s Priceless Gem tour series done by the UNC Visitors’ Center. Priceless Gem — a phrase borrowed from the UNC Alma Mater – describes specialty tours led every Friday by an expert in a particular field, from archeology to architecture. Each tour lasts one hour to 90 minutes and is aimed to entertain and teach every visitor, faculty member, student or local resident.

Kiger, a freelance associate producer, researcher, writer and statistician for live sporting events, and his ESPN Sports Century colleagues won three sports Emmys for outstanding edited sports series. Kiger is also a Civil War expert and a columnist for Chapel Hill Magazine.
