The Trustees of the William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust are pleased to announce a grant of $1 million to the endowment of the University of North Carolina School of Law in memory and honor of Mr. William C. Friday, who passed away October 12, 2012, and was an alumnus of the School. Trustees Thomas S. Kenan, III and James G. Kenan, III, along with Robert Baynard and Mary Campbell, Managing Directors of trustee JP Morgan, have designated the gift for support of student scholarships.

Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust are pleased to announce a grant of $1 million to the endowment of the University of North Carolina School of Law in memory and honor of Mr. William C. Friday, who passed away October 12, 2012, and was an alumnus of the School. Trustees Thomas S. Kenan, III and James G. Kenan, III, along with Robert Baynard and Mary Campbell, Managing Directors of trustee JP Morgan, have designated the gift for support of student scholarships.

Mr. Friday retired as President of the University of North Carolina in 1986 after a distinguished 30-year tenure.  For the next 12 years (1987-1999), he served as the Kenan Charitable Trust's first Executive Director. Under his creative leadership, the Kenan Trust's philanthropy ventured in new directions, including a program aimed at increasing the endowments of high-quality small liberal arts colleges that were significantly under-endowed.
