A team led by Blossom Damania, PhD, at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine, reports that two inter-related metabolic processes contribute to cell proliferation in non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
Roman synagogue unearthed in Israel archeological dig

An archaeological dig in Northern Israel has uncovered new fragments of an ancient synagogue dating back to the Roman Period. Experts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and of the Israel Antiquities Authority unearthed the structure in the ancient Jewish village of Huqoq.

Actor Andy Griffith dead at 86

Actor Andy Griffith, the man who played folksy Sheriff Andy Taylor in the fictional town of Mayberry, has died at the age of 86, Sheriff J.D. "Doug" Doughtie of Dare County, North Carolina, said Tuesday. Born in Mount Airy, North Carolina, in 1926, Griffith graduated from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1949 with a degree in music.

Family History of Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder May Up Kids' Risk …

A new study suggests that children whose parents or siblings have schizophrenia or bipolar disorder may be at a higher risk of developing autism spectrum disorders. Researchers led by Dr. Patrick Sullivan of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill came to their conclusions after studying the medical records of people in Sweden and Israel

Archaeologists digging just a few kilometers from the fishing village where Jesus is believed to have preached have uncovered a monumental Roman-era synagogue with an exquisite, colorful mosaic floor with fine female faces. “An inscription in Hebrew has two female faces on either side. One is destroyed and the other is complete and is absolutely spectacular,” Jodi Magness, a professor of Early Judaism at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, told The Media Line.

Both chambers override Perdue's veto of state budget plan
The News & Observer
The legislature will pass a $20.2 billion state budget over Gov. Bev Perdue's objections. The state House voted 74-45 Monday night to override her veto. The Senate voted about 30 minutes later to override with a vote of 31-10. This is the second time in two years that the Republican-controlled legislature has handed Perdue a budget defeat with the help of a handful of House Democrats.
