The Monti Takes on Literacy will be held at The William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill at 8 p.m. March 24.
The benefit event features storytelling by members of The Monti and the Orange County Literacy Council workshop, a screening of Daniel Wallace’s short film, “Two-Legged Rat Bastards,” beer and wine and a dessert reception. Tickets are $50 and all proceeds support the programs of the Orange County Literacy Council.
For almost four years, The Monti has been inviting people across the Triangle area to tell true and deeply personal stories without notes in front of a live audience. The Orange County Literacy Council provides free one-on-one and small group tutoring for adults living or working in Orange County.
Rob Bruce, director of the Friday Center, said he was instantly drawn to this event and called the partnership a “perfect match.”
“The UNC Friday Center was already interested in partnering with The Monti in order to promote the art of storytelling,” he said. “When we learned of the literacy initiative it made even more sense for us to support the event. Literacy is the key, both figuratively and literally, to lifelong learning, and the Friday Center was established to provide learning opportunities to the community and the state.”
