The Winter that Wasn't: Bird Migration

…In fact, a new study from the University of North Carolina has collected data from tens of thousands of birders in the eBird network and used that to put together a broader picture of how bird migration may be affected by climate change and warmer winters. Allen Hurlbert is an assistant professor of biology at University of North Carolina, and he joined us from Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

The University of North Carolina’s Tar Heel Sports Network should reconsider its relationship with conservative talk radio station WRDU. …As far as what will happen next, (Associate Athletic Director for Marketing Rick) Steinbacher said, “I think it would be wrong to make a knee-jerk reaction to anything. At the same time, I wouldn’t want people to think we weren’t aware of the concerns. We are a state university; we listen to the complaints, comments, concerns of anybody.” The university should resist throwing its weight into a right-versus-left battle.

Goolsby proposes plan to ease UNCW tuition hikes

One state senator has a plan to alleviate tuition hikes at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, and his recommendations start with funding cuts. In recent posts on his Facebook page and website, state Sen. Thom Goolsby, R-New Hanover, called for reductions in a handful of programs at UNCW and proposed giving professors higher course loads and eliminating administrative personnel.
