Joe Nocera, a columnist for The New York Times, will address issues related to the national discussion about reforms in college athletics at a free public event March 14 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
“Big-Time Sports and the University: A Conversation with Joe Nocera of The New York Times” will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Sonja Haynes Stone Center Theater.
A longtime expert on financial and business matters, Nocera recently has garnered attention for a series of columns examining the procedures and policies of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. At the talk, Nocera will present his thoughts on prospects for reform in collegiate athletics and take questions from the audience.
Nocera, whose columns appear on Tuesdays and Saturdays in the Times, has won three Gerald Loeb awards and three John Hancock awards for excellence in business journalism. A 2007 Pulitzer finalist, he is the author of three books: “A Piece of the Action: How the Middle Class Joined the Money Class”(Touchstone, 1995), “Good Guys and Bad Guys: Behind the Scenes With the Saints and Scoundrels of American Business (and Everything in Between)” (Portfolio, 2008) and, most recently, “All the Devils Are Here: The Hidden History of the Financial Crisis” (Portfolio, 2010), which he co-authored with Bethany McLean.
