Private equity education at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School got a boost with a $100,000 grant from Z Capital Partners LLC and James J. Zenni, Jr., its president and chief executive officer.

The three-year grant will support programs for undergraduate and master of business administration students seeking careers in the private equity industry.

The programs will include:

  • opportunities to meet private equity professionals on campus and on the job at their firms;
  • the student-run Alternative Investments Conference, a day-long event in Chapel Hill that brings together practitioners, academic researchers and students; and
  • a new private equity database that will catalog the private equity activities of alumni, faculty, staff and supporters of the school.

Z Capital is a private equity firm that invests in distressed companies and participates in improving their operations and financial position. The firm recently made major investments in Mrs. Fields Famous Brands, Neways Enterprises and Real Mex Restaurants.

Faculty and student leaders will select business students to participate in the programs supported by the gift.
