The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will receive a career services award from GE Tuesday (Oct. 4), honoring UNC Career Services for dedication to and support of GE recruiting at Carolina.

O. Ray Angle, career services director, will accept the award in a free public ceremony at 11 a.m. on the second floor of Hanes Hall, headquarters for the 20-member career services team.

GE, a diversified infrastructure and finance company, is the second largest recruiter of undergraduates at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School and a member of the University’s career services employer advisory board. For the past three years, the company has been the main sponsor of the Kenan-Flagler Undergraduate Business Symposium. Other GE initiatives included coordinating UNC student visits to its locations in China, India and South Africa for global immersion courses and entrepreneurship programs.

“We are excited to see such talented students who have demonstrated academic achievement and broad leadership capabilities at such a great University,” said Brian Worrell, GE’s executive sponsor for UNC, a vice president for global financial planning and analysis and a 1992 graduate of UNC. “Ray Angle and his team have been instrumental in helping us increase the number of students we recruit from UNC. The team is a valuable resource for the students at Carolina and companies hoping to hire them.”

UNC Career Services helps undergraduates and graduates seek jobs through individual advising and counseling, career fairs, networking nights, workshops and online programs, Angle said. Job placements for May 2011 graduates have not yet been tallied, but of the May 2010 graduates, 87 percent are employed or in graduate school.
