A reorganization of the Office of Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost will elevate the role of senior administrators overseeing enrollment, undergraduate admissions, diversity and multicultural affairs in serving the University’s chief academic officer.

Provost Bruce Carney is expanding the membership of the cabinet that advises him on key issues from three to five members and changing the titles of those administrators to vice provost from associate provost.

The changes, scheduled to take effect October 1, will add the positions of vice provost for enrollment and undergraduate admissions and vice provost for diversity and multicultural affairs to the provost’s cabinet.

Both additions to the Provost’s cabinet reflect the great importance of student issues and diversity issues to our University.

Steve Farmer, currently associate provost and director of undergraduate admissions, will be promoted into a new role, supervising and coordinating the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid and the Office of the University Registrar in addition to undergraduate admissions.

The search for a vice provost for diversity and multicultural affairs position is well underway. In the meantime, Interim Chief Diversity Officer Terri Houston will join the provost’s cabinet.

Among current provost’s cabinet members, Ron Strauss will become executive vice provost and retain his title as chief international officer; Dwayne Pinkney will become vice provost for finance and academic planning; and Carol Tresolini will become vice provost for academic initiatives.

“We are fortunate to have such great colleagues in the Office of the Provost,” Carney said. “This restructuring reflects what I believe is the best combination of people and duties to help the University successfully manage our current challenges.”

The provost is the University’s chief academic officer and oversees all academic operations, including its 14 colleges and schools, the University Library, a variety of centers, and several other cultural and educational units.
