Nichol directs the Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity and teaches courses in constitutional law, federal courts, civil rights and election law. He was the 26th president of the College of William & Mary, serving from 2005 to 2008. Previously, Nichol was Burton Craige professor and dean of the UNC School of Law, founding the UNC Center for Civil Rights in 2001.
Each year on Sept. 17, pursuant to a 2004 federal statute, U.S. schools and colleges celebrate and commemorate the day on which the U.S. Constitution was signed. This year, because Sept. 17 falls on a Saturday, Constitution Day (www.constitutionday.com) will be observed a day early.
