University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill police arrested a UNC student today (Aug. 3) on charges related to a break-in last weekend in the Student and Academic Services Building North.

The incident occurred in the student judicial system office, which houses the Honor Court, and was discovered at 8 a.m. Monday (Aug. 1). Confidential records for 31 students were taken. University student affairs officials continue to contact all of these students to inform them about the theft.

Garrett Lee Haywood, 22, of Chapel Hill was arrested on charges of breaking-and-entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods. Haywood was brought before the Orange County Magistrate and bond was set at $2,500 secured.

The University’s Department of Public Safety is continuing its investigation. The police public incident report is expected to be available sometime Thursday (Aug. 4).
