Media representatives are invited to attend “The Debt Crisis and Saving Our Fiscal Future,” a roundtable discussion on the nation’s debt crisis, hosted by the Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise. Congress faces an Aug. 2 deadline to increase the nation’s debt ceiling and avoid a government default. PBS broadcast journalist Charlie Rose will moderate the discussion.

Participants in the roundtable will be:

  • U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan, (D-N.C), a member of the Senate Banking Committee and Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee;
  • Gregory W. Brown, Sarah Graham Kenan Distinguished Scholar and Professor of Finance at UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School;
  • Maceo K. Sloan, chairman, president and CEO of Sloan Financial Group Inc. and chairman, CEO and chief investment officer for NCM Capital Management Group Inc. and NCM Advisors Inc.
  • John Spratt, former chair, U.S. House of Representatives Budget Committee;
  • John Weinberg, director of research, Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond
  • Mark W. Yusko, chief executive officer and chief investment officer, Morgan Creek Capital Management LLC.

Parking: A limited number parking spaces have been reserved in the Kenan-Flagler visitors’ lot and the Kenan-Flagler parking deck, and are available to media on a first-come, first-served basis. Media representatives who plan to cover the event should RSVP to Matthew Lebold, (919) 962-8201, Matthew_Lebold@kenan-flagler.unc.edu, no later than 4:30 p.m. Friday (July 22).
Broadcasters: A mult box will be available for audio feeds. Because of the location, no cable runs will be possible, and satellite trucks will need to park in the visitors’ lot.
