Media representatives are invited to cover the launch of the National Children’s Study in Durham County. The study will examine the effects of environmental influences on the health and development of 100,000 children across the United States, following them from before birth until age 21. The goal is to improve children’s health and well-being.

Media representatives are invited to cover the launch of the National Children’s Study in Durham County. The study will examine the effects of environmental influences on the health and development of 100,000 children across the United States, following them from before birth until age 21. The goal is to improve children’s health and well-being.

The National Children’s Study is a congressionally funded multi-year project led by a consortium of federal partners. The Durham County arm of the study is managed by the Carolina Population Center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Collaborators include UNC, Duke University and Battelle Memorial Institute.

The kick-off event is a partnership between the N.C. Museum of Life and Science and the study’s Durham County research team. Museum attendees can learn more about the study, view media materials and meet study staff. Admission to the museum is free for Durham County residents that afternoon.   • Gayle Harris, director, Durham County Health Department.
  • N.C. Rep. Henry M. (Mickey) Michaux.
  • Barbara Entwisle, Ph.D., UNC interim vice chancellor for research and economic development, Kenan Distinguished Professor of Sociology and principal investigator for the N.C. Study Center, National Children’s Study.
  • Beau Mills, district director for U.S. Rep. David Price.
