Thirty-one incoming first-year students have accepted invitations to join the Robertson Scholars Program at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and Duke University next fall.
The leader development program awards full merit scholarships to students at Duke and UNC. The scholarship funds tuition, room and board, fees and up to three summers of domestic and international experiences.
Each year, the program aims to enroll half the scholars at Duke and half at UNC. The scholars take courses at both schools and spend a semester in residence at the other campus. Julian and Josie Robertson of New York founded the Robertson program in June 2000.
The Class of 2014 was invited to join the program based on students’ demonstration of outstanding academic achievement, intellectual curiosity, passion for learning at UNC and Duke, exceptional leadership potential and interest in working with others, said Alex Perwich, the program’s new executive director.
“It has been a great pleasure getting to know members of the Class of 2014,” Perwich said. “They have impressed me as ethical, entrepreneurial and discerning young individuals with tremendous energy for pursuing meaningful goals.”
Hailing from 11 states and four foreign countries, the 31 students will enroll at the two universities next fall, with 14 at Duke and 17 at UNC. Three of the 31 are recipients from last year who will join the new class after deferring a year.
The new scholars are listed below, alphabetically by country and state. Listings state each student’s name, hometown and school.
