Undergraduate students will showcase more than 100 research projects that span a variety of academic disciplines at the 11th annual Celebration of Undergraduate Research April 23 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Undergraduate students will showcase more than 100 research projects that span a variety of academic disciplines at the 11th annual Celebration of Undergraduate Research April 23 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The event, sponsored by the Office for Undergraduate Research in UNC’s College of Arts and Sciences, will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Center for Dramatic Art on Country Club Road.
Students will make public presentations about topics that include:
- A walking tour of Chapel Hill’s geology.
- Family history and material culture in World War II-era Durham.
- Prenatal cocaine exposure’s effects on infant behavior and neural development.
- Powwows and Lumbee community identity.
- Music improvisation and instinctive emotional responses.
- Neurological processes associated with binge eating.
- Wind energy in China: using Denmark as a case study.
- Communicative repair skills in boys with autism and Fragile X Syndrome.
At 3 p.m., a group of students will be recognized as Carolina Research Scholars, an honor that will be noted on their transcripts. These scholars must successfully complete requirements that include two research-intensive classes and presenting their research at a symposium or conference.
