Four crosswalks across campus
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will stress the importance of pedestrian awareness on Wednesday (April 7) as part of the “Yield to Heels” pedestrian safety education campaign.
To encourage safety and attentiveness, volunteers at designated crosswalks will distribute educational fliers and reward people they see using proper pedestrian techniques.
Volunteers will be stationed between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the following crosswalks:
- South Road at the Bell Tower
- South Road by the Student Recreation Center
- South Columbia Street at Fraternity Court
- Manning Drive at the School of Dentistry and Thurston Bowles Building
The “Yield to Heels” campaign, coordinated by the UNC Highway Safety Research Center and UNC Department of Public Safety, focuses on three messages for drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists: Be aware, be considerate and be safe.
