Entrepreneur Ping Fu will share her personal journey from a Chinese prison to a Research Triangle Park technology company at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Nov. 19.
Her address, “The Story of an Entrepreneur,” is part of the celebration of Global Entrepreneur Week (Nov. 15-21) hosted by the Carolina Entrepreneurial Initiative (CEI). The lecture begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Maurice J. Koury Auditorium at the Kenan-Flagler Business School. A reception will follow in the Kenan Center Dining Room. Both are free and open to the public. Parking is available in the business school parking deck. Seating is limited. Those who wish to attend should visit cei@unc.edu to respond.
“Ping Fu epitomizes the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation that the Carolina Entrepreneurial Initiative promotes through its campuswide programs and activities,” said John D. Kasarda, director of the CEI and the Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise. “Her story is inspirational and demonstrates how passion combined with entrepreneurial approaches can create transformational ventures of great value.”
Named 2005 Entrepreneur of the Year by Inc. magazine, Fu co-founded Geomagic and has led its growth from start-up to worldwide leader in the digital shape-sampling and processing industry. Fu previously was director of visualization at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, where she initiated and managed the Mosaic software project that led to Netscape and Internet Explorer.
Other activities planned for Global Entrepreneur Week are the UNC Entrepreneurship Fair (Nov. 17, noon to 2 p.m., Great Hall); the Carolina Challenge Prep Session: “Idea vs. Opportunity” (Nov. 17, 6 p.m., McColl Building, Room 2500); and the Undergraduate Venture Capital Investment Competition (Nov. 21, McColl Building). All are free and open to the public. Details are available at www.unc.edu/cei/gew09.
