The Procter & Gamble Co. has thrown its sponsorship dollars behind U.S. Olympic athletes, the latest in a push to beef up its sports promotions… An advertising expert thinks P&G is playing an aggressive offense in the recession. "The financial services are distressed, the car companies are distressed, the airlines are distressed; and here they come with the checkbook," said John Sweeney, director of sports communication at the University of North Carolina's School of Journalism. "It's a very interesting chess move."

Cornell Hires Outsiders to Ease Budget Woes

As part of its campus-wide campaign to drastically cut costs, Cornell has hired global consulting firm Bain & Company to examine the University’s non-academic infrastructure and spending…Bain consultants arrived in Ithaca just weeks after completing a review of the finances and administrative structure at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. UNC’s hiring of Bain earlier this year sparked some degree of controversy there.

Retired Military Officials in VA Concerned About Future of Service

Eight retired admirals and generals from Virginia held a news conference Tuesday at the State Capitol to call for greater investments in early childhood education to ensure America’s national security for the future… A study done by researchers at UNC-Chapel Hill found that at-risk kids who did not attend a high-quality early education program were 48 percent more likely to drop out of high school. The kids who did attend were significantly more likely to work in a high-skill occupation or pursue higher education.

Walking and biking raise health and fitness levels

Incorporating even relatively short bouts of exercise into a daily commute appears to deliver significant rewards, according to a new study from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill…And men who walk or bike have lower obesity rates as well as healthier triglyceride levels, blood pressure and insulin levels, said study author Penny Gordon-Larsen, Ph.D., nutrition associate professor in UNC's Gillings School of Global Public Health.

Students can transfer to these extended campuses, often from small community colleges, and walk away with a degree from the University of Georgia… Schools such as the University of North Carolina and Penn State have numerous campuses and distinguish them. A degree from UNC-Chapel Hill is different than UNC-Wilmington.
