The specific focus of the discussion will be on the 287(g) enforcement program, which allows local and state law enforcement agents to perform immigration law functions. The four members of the panel are Paul Cox, associate staff for Homeland Security Appropriations in the office of U.S. Rep. David Price; Hannah Gill, assistant director of the UNC Institute for the Study of the Americas; Mai Nguyen, assistant professor in the UNC department of city and regional planning in the UNC College of Arts and Sciences; and Deborah Weissman, Reef C. Ivey II Distinguished Professor at the UNC School of Law.

The panel discussion is co-sponsored by the UNC Office of Economic and Business Development and the law school’s Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity.
