Two distinguished 2007-2008 municipal and county administration graduates from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Government recently were honored by two statewide organizations.

Mujeeb Shah-Khan, city attorney for the City of Charlotte, received this year’s George C. Franklin Award from the North Carolina League of Municipalities. Dan Porter, planning director of Camden County, was selected for the Edwin M. Gill Award from the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners.

Graduates are chosen by the course committees and the results of balloting by their colleagues. Graduates with the most distinguished records in their respective courses receive these awards.

“Mujeeb and Dan are very dedicated to public service, and their commitment to this educational experience and its intended mission was evident from day one,” said Greg Allison, director of the municipal and county administration courses and senior lecturer at the School of Government.

The George C. Franklin Award is named for the league’s former general counsel. The Edwin M. Gill Award is named in honor of the former state treasurer and chairman of the North Carolina Local Government Commission.
