University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will host doctoral candidate Elizabeth Gritter will discuss the modern-day civil rights movement from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday (April 22) in Toy Lounge in Dey Hall.
In the free public event, Gritter will share a travelogue of her recent bus tour of the South, including photographs from her trip. She also will display historic photos and discuss formal black political mobilization in the Jim Crow South.
Gritter will encourage audience members to contribute to her discussion. She is a presenter in the Race and Research Seminar Series of the UNC Institute of African American Research.
The institute is a center for the study of black life. Its mission is to promote scholarly investigation of the history, social experiences, culture and thought of people of African descent throughout the Diaspora, with particular emphasis on black Americans.
