A discussion set for tonight (Jan. 17) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, by Susan Estrich and Barry Scheck, has been postponed.
The two were scheduled to discuss issues related to crime and the death penalty in a free, public program in Memorial Hall. But Estrich is now ill, so organizers will seek to reschedule the event for a later date.
Scheck, a lawyer and founder and director of the Innocence Project, and Estrich, an author and syndicated columnist, were to speak as part of “Criminal/Justice: The Death Penalty Examined,” UNC’s yearlong discussion of capital punishment.
Carolina Performing Arts at UNC is facilitating the project, in which arts events are designed to catalyze discussion of events and issues that lead to capital punishment. The project is made possible in part by a grant from the Association of Performing Arts Presenters Creative Campus Innovations Grant program, a component of the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation in New York.
