At 8 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 8) in Memorial, Ensemble Courant, a music department group specializing in the baroque era, will perform “Acis and Galatea,” which Handel composed for the first Duke of Chandos.

Valentin Lazrein, baritone, and Jeanne Fischer, soprano, will perform as soloists. Musicians say that the two-act composition has come to symbolize the marriage of myth, music and text that exemplifies the baroque aesthetic. The concert is part of the Music on the Hill series, sponsored by the music department and Carolina Performing Arts.

Tickets are $15 for the public and $10 for UNC students, faculty and staff. For tickets and more information, call (919) 843-3333, click to www.carolinaperformingarts.org or visit the Memorial Hall Box Office on Cameron Avenue.

On Sunday, the UNC Consort of Viols will perform “An Elizabethan Christmas,” a free concert at 3 p.m. in Person Recital Hall.
