Los Chapeljileños, a local duo, will perform folk songs from American and Spanish traditions at 7 p.m. Dec. 6 in UNC’s FedEx Global Education Center.

John and Carmen Chasteen will accompany their vocal harmonies on guitar in the free public concert. About half the songs will be original compositions and half, adaptations of existing tunes; half will be sung in Spanish and half in English.

“Los Chapeljileños” means “the Chapel Hillians.” The duo began when John, from a small town in Louisiana, visited Carmen’s hometown in Colombia.

“We met when I asked to borrow Carmen’s guitar, and soon we were married,” John Chasteen said.

The FedEx Global Education Center, at the corner of McCauley and Pittsboro streets, offers parking in a deck under the center, accessed via Pharmacy Lane off McCauley.

The center houses UNC units related to international studies. Programming offered in the building, including concerts, lectures and exhibits, is designed to promote understanding of different cultures around the world. For more information, call (919) 962-2435.
