Mandolin/fiddle champion Sam Bush, dobro master Jerry Douglas and bass virtuoso Edgar Meyer will perform on Nov. 4 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The concert, part of Carolina Performing Arts’ 2007-08 American Roots series, will begin at 2 p.m. in the Beasley-Curtis Auditorium of Memorial Hall. The series featured a cappella sextet Take 6 on Oct. 14 and will present singer/songwriter Mary Chapin Carpenter in a sold-out show on Feb. 15.

“Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas and Edgar Meyer are masters of their instruments, and all three draw from a wide range of interests and influences through this and other important collaborations,” said Emil Kang, UNC’s executive director for the arts.

The concert will feature genre-crossing original works, traditional tunes and some of the artists’ best-known pieces.

One of the most brilliant and influential of new grass’s bright lights, Bush also has appeared with Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett, David Grisman and Mark O’Connor.

Douglas, winner of 12 Grammy Awards, incorporates bluegrass, country, rock, jazz, blues and Celtic music into his style. He has appeared with artists including James Taylor, Ricky Skaggs and Garth Brooks and is a regular with Alison Krauss and Union Station.

Renowned for his unparalleled technique, musicianship and compositional skills, Edgar Meyer has appeared with artists as varied as Béla Fleck, Mike Marshall, Yo-Yo Ma and Joshua Bell.
