Vartan Gregorian, president of the Carnegie Corporation, will be the keynote presenter at the 75th anniversary grand finale of UNC’s School of Information and Library Science at 3 p.m. on Sept. 17 in Memorial Hall.

The Carnegie Corporation provided the school with its first grant of $100,000, which allowed the school to operate and to make permanent its conditional accreditation from the American Library Association. The school began teaching classes on Sept. 17, 1931, which coincides with the finale celebration. Former N.C. Governor James B. Hunt will introduce Gregorian at the event.

Gregorian is the 12th president of the corporation, which he has presided over since 1997. He previously served as president of Brown University for nine years, and for eight years was president of the New York Public Library. Gregorian is the recipient of the National Humanities Medal and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
